Aniara: fragments of time and space

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 THROUGH SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 (7 performances)
Almi Hall, Finnish National Opera, Helsinki

a choral-theater work over three years in the making
in collaboration with Klockriketeatern and composer Robert Maggio

Who are we? Where are we going? Anywhere? Nowhere?

In case you missed the Philadelphia premiere in June 2019:

A colony leaves a destroyed Earth, its spaceship is thrown off course, lost forever to space; their tale becomes an international message of warning, hope, and connectivity.

We export our original production to the Finnish National Opera in Klockriketeatern’s hometown, Helsinki. Combining theater and music, Aniara explores the relationship between disparate practices and genres of art, while asking questions about our relationships to one another, to our only home, and to the passage of time.

Based on the 1956 epic poem by Nobel-laureate Harry Martinson. Conceived by Donald Nally, Dan Henriksson, and Robert Maggio. A co-production of The Crossing and Klockriketeatern.

Klockriketeatern is a nomadic theater company led by artistic director Dan Henriksson that collaborates with new partners and artists from various countries, in different spaces, working in several languages, and continuing stories about contemporary vagabonds and trails outside the norms of societies. Established in 1991 in Helsinki, their name is drawn from Harry Martinson’s Vägen till Klockrike (The Road).
